Frequently asked Questions

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state deep relaxation, heightening awareness induced by carefully worded suggestions. Hypnosis is non addictive using the persons own mind to help with all kinds of habits, emotional or psychological problems.

Can anyone be hypnotised?
Absolutely, anyone willing except those under the influence of alcohol or drugs, well below a 'normal' IQ or suffering from a mental or psychiatric illness.

Do you use drugs or tablets?
No.

Will I be aware of what is happening?
Yes. Most people are most surprised to remember all that has happened during the therapy.

Am I asleep?
No, you are just in a state of deep relaxation. In Analysis I need you to respond which would not be possible if you are asleep.

How Long will therapy take?
Remember, your symptoms are the result of years of conditioning, so the resolution is not an overnight phenomena. Problems, such as smoking, nail biting, slimming, pre-test nerves etc usually only require a single session of 'suggestion' therapy with high success rates. Deep-rooted conditions require 'analytical' therapy which typically can run for 8 weeks.

Will I be influenced into anything against my will or nature?
No. If a suggestion was made that was against your values or nature, then your own self protection system would kick in and bring you out of the hypnotic state immediately.

Is this for 'normal' people?
Absolutely! As a self development method it has no equal.

May I be accompanied to my consultation?
Yes, Of course.

Is this of value to medical problems?
Any known medical problems must be refereed to your GP. We would be delighted to discuss your specific issues with your GP if you feel that would be appropriate.

How can you get me to stop smoking in only one session when others take a lot more?
Other therapists work from differing perspectives relating to this work. Their training, attitude and approach differs from mine. I believe that therapy should be concluded as quickly, efficiently and effectively as possible.

Which is the top Hypnotherapy organisation in the UK?
There isn't one! In the UK there are no hypnotherapy organisations or training schools that have precedence over any of the others (though some claim they do). The largest training school in the UK is the IHypnotherapy Control Board (HCB) run by the IAH, which has trained thousands of Hypnotherapist since it started in 1981, and currently has the largest membership. Memebership to the IAH is on possible by passing their rigourous written examination.
